There are many ways to manage rodents that don't involve poisoning other animals as a side effect. First and foremost, try hard to exclude them by blocking up access points and keeping them away from food sources. If that's not enough,  then snap traps, electronic traps, fertility control, repellents, or even special Vitamin D3 bait can be used. A comprehensive list of options can be found here.

If you use a pest control company, you should find our what chemical they are using and if it is an SGAR, tell them that you want them to use something else that won't kill other animals. Once you ask, they should be happy to offer a safer alternative. Some recommended pest control companies that don't use SGARs are listed on the "Links" page.

Did you know...

  • 100% of Red-tailed Hawks tested at a MA wildlife clinic had SGARs in their organs.
  • A national study of 303 dead Bald Eagles found that 82% of the sampled birds had been exposed to rodenticides.
  • Angell Veterinary Hospital reports treating dozens of dogs, cats, and other household pets for SGAR poisoning each year.
